Dear Irving Middle School Families,

My name is Keith Mahone and I am so excited to introduce myself as the principal of Irving Middle School. This is my 6th year in District 89 and the 4th school year as the principal for Irving. Over the past 24 years, I have worked as an educator and administrator, but I consider my most important job to be that of a student advocate. As a product of Chicago Public Schools and working as a teacher in public schools, I was fortunate enough to have had many terrific administrators who mentored me.   All three had a unique way of leading, which helped me determine what kind of principal I want to be. What did they all have in common?

They put children first.

They made decisions based on what was best for student learning.

They always had time to listen.

They were honest and forthright

Furthermore, I strongly believe ALL students can achieve and succeed. My goal is to continue to ensure that all students are College and Career Ready. This requires dedication, commitment and sacrifice. I believe I was successful as a teacher, and I became better every year.   After many years of working as an educator and mentoring, I became an assistant principal. In 2017-2018 school year I was selected by IASA West Cook Region as the Assistant Principal of the Year with D89 support.

Finally, I enjoy talking with students about their goals and assisting them with reaching them. As the principal, I am looking forward to ensuring teachers are provided with the necessary tools for the success of all students. In addition, I am looking forward to work with you the parents, business, and community leaders of Maywood to ensure all lines of communication are opened to do what’s best for ALL students. As the old African Proverb states, “It takes a village to raise children”. I am excited to see your children through your eyes. Once again, I am thankful for the opportunity to work with your children.   I look forward to working with each of you during the upcoming 2022-2023 school year. Please know that the “Best is Yet to Come” for your children’s future. Irving Middle school will continue to be successful as a result of the hard work from our parents, teachers, staff, and students working together. I am available at (708) 450-2015 or email.

See you soon,

Keith Mahone
